Rising 6th-12th Grade

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at this summer's Vacation Bible School at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. We are grateful for your time & talent. VBS cannot exist without YOU!

Youth entering grades 6th-12th grade in the fall of 2019 may apply to become a youth volunteer.

Youth Volunteers

Once you submit your application to volunteer, we depend on you. More importantly, the participants depend on you. Your service and actions are directly related to the quality of the experience that a participant receives.  Therefore, before submitting and application, it is imperative that you read and commit to the information found in the information packet, available for download above or in the Church lobby and office.  Applications are included with the packet.

STATION LEADER: 1 month prep, around your schedule using pre-planned lessons (manual available now).  You will work with youth volunteers to lead the lessons and step in when needed.

SNACK PREP:  Prepare snacks and help with lunch on Friday

SUPERVISOR: Supervise youth crew leaders and their groups as they travel to activities.

SIGN IN/OUT ATTENDENT: Check arrivals and dismissed children to their parents.

SET UP/TEAR DOWN CREW:  Help stage main set in hall and stations with props.

PROP/SET MAKERS: For the creative, artistic person-around your own time

SUPPLY/PROP COORDINATOR: Around your own time, shop and organize props and supplies

Youth volunteers are placed into one of the two roles listed below at the discretion of the VBS director based on age, experience, and the date an application is received.  You may check your preferences on the applications, most of which are honored.

Crew Leaders: Crew leaders are responsible for leading a group of 5-7 participants, ages K-5th in all VBS activities, including, signing & dancing.  It is not a “baby-sitting” position.  Crew leaders are responsible for their crew member’s safety at all times.  They are responsible for helping participants engage in all activities so that their experience is meaningful. Crew leaders are expected to read and know the material in the Crew Leader manual.  Two crew leaders are assigned to each group at the discretion of the VBS director.  Please do not ask to be assigned with friends.

Station Assistants:  Station activities are prepared and supervised by Adult volunteers.  Station assistants will participate in teaching lessons and activities and helping engage participants in those lessons & activities.  Station assistants will work and communicate with Adult Station Leaders.  Station assistants are expected to read and know the material in their station manual.  They will assist the Adult leaders with room set up, daily prep, and clean up on Friday. Please do not asked to be assigned with friends.

"Totally Catholic VBS Experience"!

Vacation Bible School is a non-profit ministry supported 100% by adult and youth volunteers grades 6th-12th. Volunteers 18+ years of age have completed a Level II Background Check and mandatory Safe Environment Training for the vulnerable. Our program is led by Michelle Timm, a volunteer, who has run the program for the last seven years under the guidance of Frank Boyle, Director of Religious Education and Joanne Tomassi, Parish Operations Manager.

Vacation Bible School is a faith-based, week-long, three-hour morning, summer camp for children, rising PreK-5th Grade, in the fall of 2019. It centers around a theme that changes annually. This year's theme is "ROAR. Life is WILD. GOD is Good".

Participants are place into a Preschool or Elementary group dependent on the number of registrations received for each age group.  Our Preschool room is limited to 10 children and will be filled with PreK aged children first, on a first-come-basis.  Preschool participants experience the same VBS program as the elementary participants, “taken-down-a-notch.”  In the event that the Preschool room reaches capacity, Kindergarteners will be placed into an elementary group.

• Children (i.e. siblings) with same last name, parents/guardians, and additional information requested may be listed on one registration form for up to 5 children and up to 4 children on one Medical Release & Emergency Contact form before a second form is necessary.

• A separate set of forms is required when children being registered have one or all of the following differences:  1) last name, 2) parents or guardians, 3) any requested information. (i.e. siblings that have same mother, different fathers, cousins, etc.)

• Only custodial parents and legal guardians can register a child for VBS.

• Notary service and credit card payments are available at the church office by appointment only.  Call Lisa Mohr at 727-360-1147, ext. 207.  NOTE:  Your Emergency & Medical Release form needs to be signed in the presence of the notary.

• Cash is accepted.  Checks are payable to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, MEMO:  VBS

• We are limited to 10 PreK registrations and 70 Elementary registrations.  Seats will fill on a first-come-basis.
