The objective of the St. Vincent de Paul society is to spiritually and physically help the poor. The mission of St. John’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference is the mission of the Society; to join-together in a bond of friendship and to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those in need.

Volunteer work in our parish Conference consists of primary case work. The members interview those in need to see how to best help them with their needs—clothing, food, furniture and referrals to other organizations. The St. Vincent de Paul office is staffed by volunteers Monday–Friday, 10 a.m. to noon, as well as maintaining a 24-hour Hotline.

Our Parish Conference is fully supported by the people of St. John’s—through the Poor Boxes, the third Sunday of the Month Food Drive (given to the homeless and to others who have difficulty obtaining food) and our Car Donation Program.

For assistance, please call 727.360.1147, ext. 102. We check our voicemail throughout the day. If we are not available when you call, please leave a message; we will return it.

If you are interested in joining our ministry, or would like more information, please call Bob Salerno at 727.360.1147, ext. 102 or email

We must hurry to the aid of those in spiritual need as we hurry to put out a fire.

St. Vincent de Paul is temporarily closed

FOR OCTOBER 1, 2019- SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

The ongoing generosity of the parishioners and visitors of St John Vianney’s Church has enabled the Society of St Vincent de Paul to provide basic services to the homeless and needy in our community. In addition to distributing food, the society also provides rent, utility and laundry assistance, and gives bus passes, clothing, shoes and toiletry items to needy individuals and families.  Between October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020, the 26 members volunteered 2,327 office hours, provided 1,907 office services, and made 38 home visits to serve the homeless and needy.

However, increased client need for food has continued to put a demand on our food pantry.  During the past year, the food donations on Food Sunday have not been sufficient to meet the food needs of those we serve. As a result, we have spent approximately $10, 066 during this reporting period to purchase additional food.

Therefore, we are appealing to the parishioners to help us replenish our food pantry.  We need canned soups, meats, chicken, tuna, and ravioli with pull top lids, and various types of fruit with pull top lids or small fruit cups, as well as small jars of jelly, non-perishable milk, and single serving pouch type meals of chicken and tuna.

• Chunky, Progresso, or other type of soups

• Canned Meats (Ham, SPAM, Vienna Sausages, Corned Beef, Chili)

• Canned Chicken or Tuna

• Snacks on the Run (Bumble Bee)

• Chicken & Dumplings, Beef Stew (Dinty Moore Brand)

• Spaghetti O’s, Pasta with meat balls, Ravioli, Beefaroni, Spaghetti & Meat Balls

• Ramen Noodles

• Peanut Butter Cracker Packs
